Build Your Team, Grow Your Future

Half Day Workshops

Speaker(s):

Jacki Hart, CLM, Consulting by Hart

Jacki is a sought-after landscape business coach, teacher, and speaker. She brings a career full of landscape business and team management experience – both as a landscape contractor and as a business coach. Just like many of you, her passion for landscapes and plants far outweighed her business management talent for many years. Fast forward 30 years, and she leverages both her hard-learned business acumen plus her passion for helping entrepreneurs and managers, in everything she does for the landscape profession. As a professional speaker, workshop facilitator, consultant, and business coach, Jacki focuses on helping others grow their businesses, their managers, and their success.

Jacki has over 200 published magazine articles to her credit and is a skilled entrepreneurial educator.

In her spare time (whenever that is) Jacki enjoys being in her kayak, on her bike or snowshoes exploring the rivers and forests near her Muskoka, Ontario home.

Build Your Team, Grow Your Future

In this 3-hour workshop, join Jacki Hart, an industry-specific consultant, on a journey through solutions for the challenges of attracting and retaining staff.  Learn a new approach to solving the root causes of low employee attendance and retention rates. Watch as Jacki reveals cutting-edge leadership thinking, directed specifically at employers who struggle with staffing and retention.

There will be four key concepts will be covered, which will include specific examples on ‘how’ to adapt to the current workforce market:

  1. Accepting that despite your best efforts, you may not yet realize that how you think toward solving your employee retention problem, is actually part of the problem.
  2. Realizing that the way in which management presents themselves on a daily basis to staff of all levels, really matters.
  3.  Understanding what you should consider changing, to better connect with various workforce demographics.
  4. Shifting your style of communication to better relate to the different demographic groups within your team.

Who Should Attend?

  • Graduates of the BCLNA Grow Your Future Program
  • Employers or HR managers looking for help to solve their labour challenges
  • Supervisors/Forepersons who are working daily with team members who seem ‘disengaged’

(In other words, anyone who either hires, fires, onboards or manages people daily.)

Rain City/Dry Summers: Collecting water using permeable surfaces to grow gardens and protect infrastructure

There was a time when we could just run our sprinklers all day, any day to water our lawns and gardens. However, water has become a very scarce and sacred commodity in periods of drought. It is a resource that needs protecting and municipal regulations have restricted how much and how often we can run our sprinklers. Conversely, with new terms like “Atmospheric River” we are seeing wetter winters with peak rainfalls that overwhelm our municipal stormwater systems. There is a way to combine these two issues and collect and store water on site to use either domestically, or release back into the system after peak flooding.  In this hands-on workshop, we will look at alternate ways to collect, store and use water in our gardens and landscapes using hardscape products.
