Fungicides are one of the important tools for minimizing the impact of diseases on nursery crops. However, given the diverse nature of crops grown in both indoor and outdoor nursery environment and influx of many new chemistries and facing-out of old chemistries it has become more and more challenging when choosing appropriate fungicides for disease management.

A collective approach is necessary when managing diseases in nurseries. These include, but not limited to, a) understanding the nature of disease and biology of the causal organism, b) altering environmental conditions that are less conducive for disease development, c) practicing disease prevention vs. disease control, d) using appropriate fungicides as a tool within an integrated disease management program, e) selecting fungicides based on their mode-of-action and accessibility/conductivity within plant tissues, f) timing of fungicide application based on pathogen’s disease cycle, and g) resistance management of fungicides to prolong their longevity.

This presentation will capture some of the aspects of common diseases and effective use of fungicides for nursery crops.
